Keep the Faith

Five years ago I joined a task force made up of a group of individuals of diverse faiths. We were charged with developing a faith-based program to find employment for unemployed and under-employed people in our county of residence. Early on, we talked about our different beliefs and how we worshiped individually according to our various faith traditions. We also, had spirited discussions about the possibility of Christianity becoming the governing faith of the organization. During one such discussion we examined faith from another aspect. Did we have faith in each other to deliver on our various parts of the project? Could we create a program that would allow participants to have faith in our ability to deliver what we promised them? That discussion pointed out that while we had different beliefs in a higher being, we shared a common faith about trust, truthfulness, and acceptance. From this strong principle we have been able to build bridges of support, respect, understanding, and good will.
