Diversity Council Honors Award™ - Frequently Asked Questions

<< Back to the Diversity Council Honors Award

What is the Diversity Council Honors Award?
The Diversity Council Honors Award™ was established by the Association of Diversity Councils to honor outstanding contributions and achievements of diversity council groups that lead diversity processes in organizations and demonstrate results in the Workforce, Workplace and Marketplace. Recipients of the award will set the standards of excellence for diversity councils in the US.

Why was the award established?
The award was established to recognize the achievements of councils at a national level. In addition, the collection of recognized results achieved by councils will serve as a foundation for best and next best practices for councils within and across industries. Access to such practices will position councils to be more influential and effective in their organizations.

Who may apply for the award?
The award evaluates the contributions of US based operational councils that have been in operation for at least two (2) years. These councils execute strategic tactics to achieve goals that may come from an Executive Council or Steering Committee.

Is there a fee to complete an application?
There is no fee required to complete an application.

Does a council have to be a member with the Association of Diversity Councils to apply for the award?
This is an open application process. Membership with the Association of Diversity Councils is not a requirement to apply.

How important is the use of the term "diversity council"?
Recognizing that groups that lead diversity processes in organizations have a variety of names, the term council is used as a general term.

What are the Diversity Council Honors Award criteria?
Award applicants are evaluated on contributions and achievements in these categories:

  • Demonstrated Council Results
  • Demonstrated Management Commitment
  • Measurement and Accountability
  • Communication and Education

What if I don’t qualify?
If you do not meet the criteria to apply this year, utilize the PDF application in order to prepare for next year.

How long does it take to complete an application?
The application contains 21 pages and 65 questions.  Depending on the amount of detail you provide in your responses, it may take 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete the entire application process.  To ensure a valid entry the application must be completed in its entirety.

What is the deadline for completing an application?
All applications must be submitted by 5:00 PM Eastern, December 17, 2009.

What if I don’t complete the application in time?
If your application is not submitted by the deadline date of 5PM EST, December 17, 2009, you will miss the opportunity to be considered for the 2010 Diversity Councils Honors Award.

When will the awards be announced?
The Top 25 award recipients will be announced and awards presented during a Diversity Council Awards Reception to be held at the Linkage Summit on Leading Diversity, April 27, 2010 in Atlanta. Recipients will be notified in advance of the conference. Councils or council representatives do not need to be present to win.

How will I know if our council earns a spot among the Top 25 Diversity Councils?
The ADC will contact the person listed as the primary contact on the application of their council’s selection one week after results have been determined. Notification will be done at least 6 weeks prior the date the Awards are scheduled to be presented in Atlanta.

May more than one council from my company submit an application?
Award recipients may be a Company Council, responsible for achieving goals for the entire organization; or a council within a company that represents a specific line of business or business unit.  Applications from distinctive multiple councils within one organization are allowed.

Will my information be used for marketing?
The name of the organizations/councils of the Top 25 recipients will appear on the ADC website as well as post-Award press releases to the media.

Can I start my application on one computer and complete it on a different one?
The system for this application process requires that the application be completed on one computer. If you leave the application and need to complete it later, you will need to do so using the same browser on the same computer on which you began the application process.

Why do I have to enter my contact information more than once?
We request contact information for the individual who completes the survey, and for the individual in the organization that should receive the official notification should the council be one of the Top 25. Many times they are different individuals.

Does my work get saved?
The system saves responses through a "cookie". You must click the "Next" button on a page or use the "Done" button at the end of the survey to save answers. Should you need to exit the browser for any reason, when you re-access your application you will be brought back to the page you were last completing.

What are Cookies?
Cookie technology addresses the need to keep track of information entered at a site. When you submit the application, the site can associate that information with you as you travel through the site's pages. Otherwise, every time you clicked on a different page in the site, establishing a new connection, the site would lose the information in reference to you, forcing you to re-enter it. Cookie contents are encrypted and are only readable by the site that placed them.

How can I get back into my "saved" survey?
As long as you are on the computer on which you started the survey, you may access the survey simply by clicking the "Submit Your Council" button on http://www.diversitycouncil.com/inspire/diversity-council-honors-award.html.

Can I print my application after I have completed it?
To obtain an immediate copy of your application it is best to print it page-by-page as you are completing it. Also, after you have completed your application and before you press the "I Accept" button, you may page back to the beginning of the application and print each page.

Can our council get a copy of our completed application from the ADC?
The application process is managed by a third party; therefore we do not have the ability to provide copies of completed applications. We recommend that you make a copy of your completed application prior to pressing the "I Accept" button.

How do I know for sure my completed survey was received?
Once you have completed the survey and have clicked "DONE" at the end of the application, you will receive a confirmation.

If I have technical problems with the survey, who do I contact?
Please email all questions to award@diversitycouncil.com. The application process is managed by a third party. Questions will be directed to them for review and response in the order they are received. Once your question is addressed, the ADC will get the response back to you.

Who can I contact for support?
Please email your questions to award@diversitycouncil.com. They will be reviewed and answered in the order they are received.

Sorry, the 2010 Honors Award submission process is now closed.
Be sure to return in the Fall of 2010 to submit your council group for the 2011 Diversity Council Honors Award.
